Border Patrol Arrests Cartel Drug Smugglers Using Children As Diversions – 225 LBS Of Meth Seized

It’s disturbing the lengths that cartels will go to to get these poisons into our country. We know the cartels are ruthless, murderous organizations, but endangering children to get hardcore drugs across the border is low even for them. When I was in New Mexico covering the construction of Airman Brian Kolfage’s first section of border wall, we encountered many drug paths, and the cartels would regularly send scouts to see what we were doing. I included a video I shot of one cartel drug path we came across at the end of this article. Our wall cut off the paths, but cartels also send smugglers through ports of entry like in the instances below. Children as young as six were used as diversions.

CBP is reporting:

“PINE VALLEY, Calif. — U.S. Border Patrol agents arrested a woman yesterday at the Interstate 8 checkpoint who had 160 packages of methamphetamine hidden inside her SUV. The woman also had her two minor children in the car, which is a repeat of a smuggling incident that occurred on Tuesday.

The incident began on Wednesday, October 2, at around 6:30 p.m., when a woman driving a silver Nissan Murano approached the checkpoint. A Border Patrol K-9 team performed a sniff of the vehicle, which resulted in an alert. The agent sent the woman to secondary inspection for further examination.

In secondary, a K-9 performed a second sniff of the vehicle and alerted to the driver’s door and passenger-side rear-cargo area. Agents searched and discovered plastic-wrapped bundles concealed in the rear cargo area, rear bumper, center console, and all four doors. Agents also retrieved bundles inside the SUV’s spare tire. A total of 160 bundles of meth were recovered, which weighed 157.54 pounds and had an estimated street value of $362,342.

The driver, a 32-year-old U.S. citizen, was placed under arrest. The narcotics were turned over to the Drug Enforcement Administration and the vehicle was seized by the U.S. Border Patrol. The two minor children, aged 12 and 13, were released to family members.

“This is the second event this week where drug smugglers used children as a diversion,” said San Diego Sector Chief Patrol Agent Douglas Harrison. “I am proud of our agents’ dedication. They diligently safeguard children from being used as decoys to benefit transnational criminal organizations.””

The day before Border Patrol intercepted that shipment of drugs, they made another bust in the same area. A six-year-old child was used by the smuggler as a diversion.

“U.S. Border Patrol agents arrested a woman at the Interstate 8 checkpoint who had methamphetamine hidden inside her SUV with a child in her car on Tuesday.

At approximately 9 p.m., on Oct. 1, 2019, a woman and her 6-year-old son arrived at the I-8 checkpoint in a 1999 Ford Expedition. Agents referred the driver to secondary inspection for further examination. Once there, a K-9 alerted to the rear door of the SUV.

Searching the vehicle, agents found several plastic-wrapped packages inside the left and right side rear-door panels. Agents also noticed the rear spare tire had abnormalities and discovered packages were inside. At the end of their search, the agents retrieved a total of 65 bundles of crystal meth. The bundles weighed 67.68 pounds and have an estimated street value of $179,352.

The driver, a 25-year-old Mexican national, was arrested and her child was placed with Child Protective Services. The narcotics were turned over to officials at the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department and the vehicle was seized by the U.S. Border Patrol.

“I am very proud of the dedication displayed by these agents,” said San Diego Chief Patrol Agent Douglas Harrison. “They are committed to keeping dangerous narcotics from reaching our communities and protecting innocent children from being used as pawns by criminal organizations.””

When I was covering the construction of our border wall, I spoke with several Border Patrol agents. They told me how the cartels would send groups of immigrants, often with children, to attempt to cross the border. They would cross in areas where they knew they would be caught. While Border Patrol agents were busy with them, cartel scouts would alert drug smugglers to cross in another area. The migrants were used by the cartels as diversions to get narcotics into our country undetected.

Here’s a short video I shot of a cartel drug smuggling path when we first started construction on our border wall in Sunland Park, New Mexico.

Below is a shot I took of the path the drug smugglers would use after they illegally entered the U.S.

This is a shot of the same path from the bottom.

Of course, our wall cut that path off and there have been zero reported crossings in that area since we completed construction. It’s estimated 33,000 illegal crossings & millions of dollars in drugs have been stopped since we finished that section of the wall. Here’s a photo I took as we placed the final section of wall. It’s the exact spot the drug path was in.

We obviously need more wall to stop the flow of drugs & illegal immigrants from getting into our country, yet at the same time, we need more Border Patrol agents to man the ports of entry & to fill in the gaps where there are no border barriers yet.

Share this if you want more wall!
