California and Maine are seeking to emulate Colorado’s decision by prohibiting former President Trump from appearing on their state ballots in 2024.
The Colorado Supreme Court ruled this week to disqualify Trump from being listed on the state’s ballots for the election in 2024.
According to Fox News, the disqualification, enacted in accordance with the 14th Amendment of the U.S. Constitution, pertains to the Capitol disturbance that occurred on January 6, 2021.
The verdict from Colorado’s top court which came out Tuesday was 4-3, has been temporarily suspended until January 4 due to the anticipated filing of appeals. Three of the court’s justices expressed a dissenting opinion.
“We do not reach these conclusions lightly,” stated the majority of the court.
“We are mindful of the magnitude and weight of the questions now before us. We are likewise mindful of our solemn duty to apply the law, without fear or favor, and without being swayed by public reaction to the decisions that the law mandates we reach.”

Maine Secretary of State Shenna Bellows is reportedly exploring possibilities regarding the exclusion of Trump from the primary ballot in that state’s upcoming March election.
Last week, Bellows’s office stated that “The challengers have the burden of providing sufficient evidence to invalidate the petition.”
“At the hearing there will be an opportunity for both the challengers and the candidate to present oral testimony of witnesses as well as additional documentary evidence, and to make oral argument pertaining to the challenge in light of that evidence.”
The accusation alleges that Trump participated in an act of insurrection on January 6 and is “now ineligible to hold any office, civil or military, under the United States.”
The statement asserts that “Trump is not eligible to hold the office of President of the United States, his declaration is false, and his consent and primary petitions are void.”
The Maine lawsuit states that “Despite knowing the risk of violence and that the crowd was angry and armed, Trump incited violence [in a pre-insurrection speech] both explicitly and implicitly.”
“He repeatedly called out [then-Vice President Mike] Pence, told the crowd to ‘fight like hell’ and used other variations of ‘fight’ 20 times, repeatedly insisted that ‘we’ (including the agitated crowd) could not let the certification [of Joe Biden’s victory] happen, and promised that he would march with them to the Capitol.”
The legal team representing Trump contended that he urged demonstrators to express their opinions “peacefully and patriotically,” which can be heard in video recordings of the former president’s speech from that day.
In the meantime, in California, Lieutenant Governor Eleni Kounalakis corresponded with CA Secretary of State Shirley Weber via a letter, expressing the intention to investigate potential measures for prohibiting Trump’s inclusion on the ballot.
According to Breitbart, Kounalakis referenced the Colorado verdict, stating that it “is about honoring the rule of law in our country and protecting the fundamental pillars of our democracy.”
She stated that the court’s ruling “can be the basis for a similar decision here in our state. The constitution is clear: you must be 35 years old and not be an insurrectionist.”
The letter stated that “California must stand on the right side of history.”
As we reported yesterday, Trump is not “taking this lying down. He responded immediately on social media” regarding the ruling out of Colorado.
After delivering a speech in Waterloo, Iowa, Trump began a blizzard of Truth Social posts related to the Colorado decision, reposting others’ comments and adding his own.
Fox News host Laura Ingraham saying, “Tonight, America is seeing the ultimate—in ELECTION INTERFERENCE.”
Trump quoted another Fox News clip, writing, “IT IS NOT GOOD FOR OUR COUNTRY, AT ALL…” and “They don’t want the voters to decide this…there is obviously this deep fear of Donald Trump potentially winning the White House back…”
Gregg Jarrett: “This is ELECTION RIGGING…This is an effort, make no mistake, to deprive American voters of their right to make the decision as to who should be president. It is anti-democratic. It’s the equivalent of rigging the ballot box.”
Charlie Hurt: “Democrats in Colorado are so afraid of allowing American voters to vote and pick the next president they are willing to do extra-judicial things, in order to thwart the people’s choice from being on the ballot.
Trump finished the day on social media by declaring:
“CROOKED JOE BIDEN IS A THREAT TO DEMOCRACY!!!”
And:
“BIDEN SHOULD DROP ALL OF THESE FAKE POLITICAL INDICTMENTS AGAINST ME, BOTH CRIMINAL & CIVIL. EVERY CASE I AM FIGHTING IS THE WORK OF THE DOJ & WHITE HOUSE. NO SUCH THING HAS EVER HAPPENED IN OUR COUNTRY BEFORE. BANANA REPUBLIC??? ELECTION INTERFERENCE!!!”
Thursday morning Trump was back on the attack, posting on Truth Social:
“I’m not an Insurrectionist (“PEACEFULLY & PATRIOTICALLY”), Crooked Joe Biden is!!!”
A Truth Social user replied to Trump’s post, stating:
“President Trump did nothing wrong, he was the one called for a peacefully march, peacefully & patriotically, he called the patriots to go home in peace. He also had 10,000 National Guard Troops ready.”
